  • Studies have shown that art and nature can reduce stress, make people happier, and improve memory and attention. "At any skill level, making art reduces stress hormones: Cortisol lowers significantly after just 45 minutes of art creation." - Drexel University. “… time in nature was found to have a positive effect on mood and aspects of cognitive function, including working memory, as well as a dampening effect on anxiety." -Stanford news.

  • Most art classes only address how to create art. Nature Sketch Crate not only helps you to start painting, it also helps you reconnect with nature by teaching you more about it. The step-by-step lessons require you to think about an animal and plant’s behavior and anatomy. This is encouraged by the “about me” pages included in the lessons that provide information in a simple and approachable way. In addition, you are asked to apply the step-by-step lesson by going out into nature and sketching. A printed guide with some advice on how to accomplish this as well as a simple video, modeling how it can be applied, is provided.

  • A portion of the profits from each crate are donated to an environmental organization related to the subject you are painting. You are automatically making a positive impact on the environment just by buying the box!

In addition, you will find a list of very simple actions that you can take to help the environment directly related to the subject you are learning to paint. For example, students can learn to paint a California Poppy and then find encouragement to plant a native plant garden with a list of reasons why this helps the environment. The suggested actions are small steps to make it easier to start taking action and feel accomplishment by doing something positive for the environment.

  • Nature subjects: One animal and one plant lesson is in each crate. Each lesson will teach you about the subject and simple ways to help the subject, in addition to teaching you how to paint it.

  • NOT INCLUDED: Like any art class, this class does have a supplies list: Sakura Koi Water brush (Round Medium #6), Kneaded eraser-small, 0.5mm mechanical pencil, black Micron pens (005, 01, 08), and reusable towel.

These are optional in each crate because they can be reused each month for several months. They are available in our shop to purchase individually as well!
